Organizize!

Posted by: – Date:

A very short post tonight to deliver up a 2nd serving of my “Organizize!” Icon Series. Tonight I present for your pleasure, four well-used oak file drawer images for your Accounts, Medical Records, Shopping Lists and Receipts, and Desktop or Scrapbook Wallpapers. Hope you enjoy them! I’ve got more coming over the next several days, but if you have any special requests, just leave a comment to this post and I’ll give it a whirl.

Sometimes I get asked where do my ideas for clip art, icons, or paintings come from. This particular series was created originally for my cousin, Flora Spector, who developed and maintains a few different websites (including several of her own) geared to fans of Sherlock Holmes. A couple of years ago, when she was looking to update one of the sites, I designed a few different concepts that I thought would be perfect. Alas, Flo didn’t feel any of my artwork fit what she had in mind. Normally, I would simply try to get a better understanding of what a “client” is looking for and try again, but this happened just at the time when I was undergoing a particularly grueling round of chemo and was having a hard time even sitting up or focusing my eyes. So – I put that artwork on the back-burner and forgot about it, while Flo went ahead and either created the artwork she wanted herself or hired another graphic artist. The site came out quite nice – but very different from what I had in mind, so I see why she didn’t find my designs suitable. A couple of weeks ago, when I was cleaning up my digital archives, I came across that artwork again. Seemed a shame to let all that work go to waste, and so, hopefully, now it won’t!

By the way, if you’re a “Sherlockian” or know someone who is, you might want to check out my cousin’s two related websites (or any of the other Sherlockian Web Ring sites that link to hers). One of Flo’s websites is a blog she maintains for her alter-ego “Mrs. Hudson” (yes, THAT Mrs. Hudson!) at: The Musings of Mrs. Hudson. Another of her websites is for one of the Sherlockian groups she belongs to, The White Rose Irregulars, which holds their meetings in and around Reading, Pa.

Community Yes! Government Less.

Posted by: • Date:

I’ve been pretty busy the last days, volunteering to do all kinds of graphics work for Ron Shegda’s Campaign for PA State Rep, 136th Dist. Yeah, I know. I don’t even live in Pennsylvania, so why would I care? I care because no matter what state you live in, as US Citizens we’re all affected by the elected officials of every state. I care because too many people fail to vote on local elections, but besides the fact that our daily lives are first and foremost affected by our local leaders, our Congressmen, Senators, and President generally rise out of the pool of locally elected officials and for once, I’d like to have the tough choice between “Best” and “Bester” rather than the lesser of two evils. By supporting “the good guys” and voting for them on the local level now, we’ll have a better chance of getting better choices in the future.

As to Ron Shegda in particular: Ron is different from the typical politicians we’ve all come to know and loathe. He has strong inner values while at the same time, has an open mind. I’ve found him to be extremely well-read (better yet, he actually understands what he’s read!) and very curious and interested in hearing other points of view, whether on the issues themselves or on the best way to achieve a certain goal. Ron doesn’t simply parrot a worn party line as his goals are to serve his constituents by protecting their rights to self-determination, freedom from government, and to inspire greater community involvement. As an old Flower Child of the 1960’s, that’s what I had gotten involved in protests for and I haven’t changed a bit in those values, although I’ve learned that we can’t allow ourselves to make presumptions about candidates based solely on the political party they’re affiliated with. We’ve got to go by the individual character and actions of the men and women who’s names are on the ballot. Sure, that takes a bit of homework, but considering the fact that our whole way of life is at stake, it is definitely worth the time.

Ron hosts a radio show, “The Two Things We Don’t Talk About” every Tuesday morning from 8:00-9:00 am, on WPGN Sunny 1100, that also streams live so you can see them in the studio) called . Generally, Ron has on a guest of either local or national interest and they chat about current issues. Sometimes the discussions get deeply into a subject and other times it’s more breezy while remaining informative. Yesterday, Ron’s guest was my father, Dr. Roland Sigal. It was the first time I had ever heard my father talk about what it was like around the family dinner table while he was growing up. For some reason, I had never pictured him before sitting down with his Mom, Dad and 2 younger brothers. He has always been a grown-up in my mind (a forever young at heart grown-up, but never a child.) So it was interesting. On tonight’s menu, I’m posting a few images on the timely subject of the housing market and foreclosures. Enjoy!

Lawyers, Guns & Money

Posted by: • Date:

Another day, Another brief, Another month, Another year and on and on it goes in the great mandala of a life caught between a cranky bear who’s hobby it is to play with the law as if it were a handful of Silly Putty® to be molded at will. But this, too, shall one day pass. Despite the few instances I’ve experienced of either judicial naïvety, short-sightedness, laziness, or mistake, and the paranoid nay-sayers who see the world through stereotyped lenses, I refuse to believe that “justice” is always and only a fairy tale controlled by wicked and wealthy. I understand the necessity of being overtly cautious to protect against the possibility of an innocent defendant. While at times I may wonder whether there’s as much open-mindedness and concern for the possibility of an honest and innocent plaintiff, I know that I just need to be patient and keep myself above the fray by not allowing myself to be ruffled by the seemingly never-ending barrage of attacks on my character that have no basis in truth nor allowing myself to become bitter or to lose my self-respect by behaving in kind. I honestly am hopeful that at least this time the truth will prevail so that my little family can move forward and I can live out the rest of my days in peace.

Forgive me, my world-wide friends, for being somewhat cryptic in these melancholy postings about my present legal woes. I would spill all if I could but do not wish to jeopardize the integrity of my case and, while it may sound strange to many, despite all the harm I’ve suffered at the hands of someone I had expected better from I really have no desire to add-on to his/her woes by broadcasting their humiliation. Even the mean and the guilty deserve compassion and the room to pull themselves out of the mud with the dignity of one who is truly repentant.

I know that my attitude as felt in my heart and expressed by my words is not as entertaining as those with a more flippant point of view who may advocate the sentiment of Warren Zevon’s anthem, “Gimme Lawyers, Guns and Money”, but I’m not a total dullard or goody-goody as my hands seem to get the better of me at times and create all this snickering, sarcastic artwork behind my back at nights and slip it in at the bottom of my posts… 😉
